Yurina Melara Valiulis serves as a Public Information Officer for Covered California. In her role she oversees all Spanish media outreach for the Southern California region and is responsible for proactive earned media planning. Prior to joining Covered California, Yurina covered public health for over ten years as a reporter for La Opinión, the largest Spanish daily newspaper in the United States. Yurina is a recipient of the 2009 New America Media’s “Best Health Reporting” award, the 2013 “Best International Reporting”, and was also honored by the International Association of Salvadoran Women as one of the most influential Salvadorans. Yurina is also the 2017 recipient of the PRSA-LA Prism Award for “Feature Stories” category.
